Commander’s Corner
Summer is a season for making memories, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the freedoms we are so fortunate to have. Those freedoms were earned through the sacrifices of the men and women who served our nation, and they remind us why the American Legion’s mission of service to veterans, their families, our youth, and our community remains as important today as ever.
At Devereaux Post 141, our Post is more than a meeting place—it’s a place where veterans find fellowship, families build friendships, and our community comes together to honor those who have served. Every meal we share, every event we host, and every volunteer hour contributed strengthens the bonds that make our Legion family so special.
I encourage you to join us for our August activities, including the Poker Run on August 15, Meat Bingo on August 16, our delicious Broasted Chicken Dinner on August 25, and our annual Golf Outing on August 29. These events are wonderful opportunities to reconnect with old friends, welcome new members, and support the programs that benefit veterans throughout our community.
Don’t forget our weekly traditions that have become favorites for so many members: our $5 Thursday Meal Special, Friday Fish Fry, and Broasted Chicken on the fourth Tuesday of every month. And beginning in October, we’ll once again enjoy Pizza Night on the second Wednesday of each month.
None of what we accomplish would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers and the continued support of our members. Your involvement helps ensure that Post 141 remains a place where veterans are never forgotten, service never ends, and patriotism is lived every day.
Thank you for being part of the Devereaux Post 141 family. Together, we honor the past, serve the present, and inspire the future.

American Legion Auxiliary
Music is a powerful form of communication, expressing gratitude, hope, and shared purpose in ways that words alone often cannot. At our last unit meeting, we began incorporating music into our session, and it was a meaningful addition. It served as a reminder of the patriotism and service that unite us. We look forward to continuing this tradition in future meetings, using music to strengthen our connections, celebrate our love of country, and preserve the values of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Music has long been an important tradition of the American Legion Auxiliary, bringing members together while honoring our nation’s history and values.
As students head back to school, let’s remember that many military and veteran families face the same back-to-school challenges as everyone else. A simple act of kindness, such as donating school supplies, contributing to a backpack or clothing drive, or offering support to a local military family, can help ease the transition into a new school year. The American Legion Auxiliary is committed to strengthening our communities by supporting veterans, military families, and their children, and together we can help ensure every student begins the school year with confidence and the tools they need to succeed.
Sons of the American Legion
The new membership year is off to a great start! We would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who supported and volunteered at the Annual Veterans Family Picnic. Your dedication helped make the event a tremendous success for our veterans and their families. We’re also looking forward to our upcoming Car Show on August 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and we encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the day.
In addition, planning is well underway for our annual Labor Day Picnic at the Post, and we look forward to another great opportunity to come together in fellowship and celebrate our veterans, members, families, and community. We encourage everyone to join us and help make this year’s event another success.
Thank you to all who continue to give your time, talents, and dedication in support of our veterans, our Post, and our community. Your volunteer spirit, generosity, and commitment are truly appreciated and make a meaningful difference throughout the year.
American Legion Riders
American Legion Riders Post 141 proudly supported one of our own as he was named July 2026 Veteran of the Month by the Livingston County Veterans Council. Congratulations, John Luker, and thank you for all you do to support veterans and their families! Our riders also supported the Post’s July 4th celebration and Post Family picnic.
Members of American Legion Riders Post 141 took part in the annual ALR Hell to Paradise PTSD Ride and the Michigan Bikers Honoring Veterans Hero’s Ride, helping raise funds to support veterans, those facing PTSD, and the families who stand beside them. We also joined the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Ride to Hell and Back in support of PTSD awareness.

Volunteer Corner
Volunteer of the Month: Christopher “Whiskey” Scott
American Legion Post 141 is proud to recognize Christopher “Whiskey” Scott as our Volunteer of the Month.
As a dedicated member of the Sons of the American Legion, Whiskey consistently steps up whenever help is needed. Whether it’s cooking for our events, setting up before activities, or lending a hand wherever the workload is greatest, his commitment to our Post never goes unnoticed.
Whiskey also takes the lead in organizing and running the popular ARC Dance, helping create an enjoyable event while supporting our community and our mission.
His dedication extends far beyond our Post. Following devastating flooding in North Carolina, Whiskey volunteered his time to travel there and deliver much-needed relief supplies to flood victims, demonstrating the spirit of service and compassion that defines the American Legion Family.
Congratulations, Whiskey, and thank you for your outstanding service to Post 141, our community, and those in need.
Christopher “Whiskey” Scott exemplifies selfless service, dependability, and a willingness to help others without seeking recognition. Post 141 is grateful for his countless hours of volunteer work and is honored to recognize him as our Volunteer of the Month.

Heavenly Father,
As we welcome the month of August, we pause to thank You for the freedoms we enjoy and for the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed to protect them.
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve through the American Legion Auxiliary and to honor our veterans, active military, and their families.
Lord, bless our Unit 141 & Post 141 members with hearts full of compassion, hands ready to serve, and spirits united in purpose.
Guide us as we continue our mission of supporting those who have worn our nation’s uniform.
Strengthen those who are facing illness, loneliness, grief, or uncertainty. Surround them with Your comfort, peace, and healing presence.
As we gather for upcoming events and fellowship, remind us that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a difference in someone’s life.
Help us to be a source of encouragement and hope in our community.
May we always remember the words of Scripture:
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2
Lord, teach us to carry one another’s burdens with love, patience, and understanding.
May our actions reflect gratitude for those who have served and a commitment to serving others in return.
We ask Your continued blessing upon our veterans, our military, our first responders, our community, and the members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 141 & Post 141.

Veterans Helping Veterans
At American Legion Post 141, we believe no veteran should have to face hardship alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, we are here to help.
Post 141 may be able to provide emergency financial assistance, connect veterans with VA benefits and community resources, and help locate food, housing, and other essential services. In addition, the American Legion Riders of Post 141 maintain an emergency assistance fund to help veterans and their families during times of crisis.
If you know a veteran in need, please don’t wait to reach out.
